Shooting at Howe Park Injures 4 Shot in Arden-Arcade Sacramento
Law enforcement in Sacramento are probing a gunfire incident that erupted late Saturday at the Howe Community Park area as authorities were breaking up a large unauthorized gathering of multiple hundreds of people.
Prior to the Shooting
Sacramento County Sheriff's deputies initially got calls about Howe Community Park just after 6:30 PM after being notified of individuals who may have had concealed firearms. Soon after, a second caller reported mentioning a possible fight breaking out inside the park.
Aerial units scanned the area from the air but could not confirm any ongoing fight. Even so, it was evident that a massive group had congregated at Howe Park without permission.
The Shooting Itself
Officers began the process of clearing the park by setting up around the park's perimeter and issuing commands over loudspeakers telling those gathered to disperse at once. Around 15 minutes were provided for the gathering to break up.
While deputies worked to disperse the gathering that between 20 and 25 rounds were discharged. The shots caused mass panic. Officers swiftly started looking for those injured.
Those Who Were Hit
Altogether, four shooting victims were found to have been shot. The four individuals — comprising three men and one woman all reportedly in their twenties — were airlifted or driven to area medical facilities. Doctors and nurses indicated that two victims were in serious condition, one had moderate injuries, and one had injuries classified as minor. In a positive development, all four victims survived and were stable.
Sacramento fire crews provided support and provided medical assistance shooting victims at the park.
Crime Scene Evidence
The main crime scene was believed to have been concentrated along the Cottage Way corridor alongside the Home Depot on the 2200 block of Howe Avenue. Crime scene investigators identified additional spent rounds on the Cottage Way roadway. Round impacts were identified in the iron perimeter fence alongside the Home Depot store. This ballistic evidence suggested that at least one shooter had been sending rounds south from the Cottage Way area in the direction of the Home Depot. The Home Depot was put under lockdown while the scene was active. Crime scene personnel kept processing evidence throughout the night.
Arrests Made
Details gathered over scanner radio traffic established that a vehicle identified as a Kia check here had been stopped in an area within Solano County. Four people were in the vehicle at the time of the stop. Sacramento law enforcement were sent to retrieve the detainees to bring the suspects back for processing in Sacramento County. Surveillance footage made clear that two separate shooters participated in the incident.
